【#30 ATJ-Racing】wins for the first time in 5 years with calculated driving!
The 2018 "Mote Tai" final race will be held on August 26 (Sun). Including the team that earned the right through the official qualifying held the day before, as well as the seeded, organizer-recommended, and Saturday final race teams, all 77 teams lined up on the grid and started at 9:00 aiming for the goal 7 hours later as planned.
The #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing from pole position showed a great start and took the hole shot, quickly establishing a dominant lead. In second place was #11 BLUE EYES & DREAM Kashiwa, followed by #7 MSTV WITH ME CBR250RR in third, #1 YSS Racing × MGR. Racing Service in fourth, #12 CLUB1.2FK Kusshita Kawasaki in fifth, #25 BF&RASH・Fujita in sixth, #32 TEAM SANMEI in seventh, and #51 Shin Kensetsu with Vesrah in eighth. On the second lap, #12 CLUB1.2FK Kusshita Kawasaki moved up to second place, followed by #7 MSTV WITH ME CBR250RR, #11 BLUE EYES & DREAM Kashiwa, and #25 BF&RASH・Fujita. However, #25 BF&RASH・Fujita crashed in the first corner, quickly restarting but falling behind.
In the early stages of the race, 【#103 NMC×ATJ -Racing】 was leading the pack, while a close battle for second place was taking place. In the midst of this, an accident occurred when 【#7 MSTV WITH ME CBR250RR】 and 【#35 GO&FUN TeamKYOEI C Team】 collided and crashed at a hairpin turn, causing both teams to drop significantly in position.
In the back, there were teams that focused on maintaining their pace and fuel efficiency. These teams were #30 ATJ-Racing, #1 YSS Racing x MGR. Racing Service, and #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store. Among them, the standout was when, after 2 hours and 25 minutes of racing, there was a crash at the V-shaped corner, causing a safety car to enter the track for 4 laps due to the vehicle remaining on the course. Here, #1 YSS Racing x MGR. Racing Service and #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store both entered the pit twice for refueling. In particular, #1 YSS Racing x MGR. Racing Service had perfect timing and was in the lead at the halfway point of 3 hours and 30 minutes. #103 NMC x ATJ-Racing and #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store were both chasing them on the same lap. However, #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store received a 60-second penalty for exceeding the maximum consecutive driving time and fell back. It seemed that #1 YSS Racing x MGR. Racing Service had a solid lead, but they also received a 60-second penalty for overtaking during a yellow flag period. Then, on the 147th lap with less than 1 hour remaining, #30 ATJ-Racing finally took the lead for the first time in this race. #30 ATJ-Racing had only entered the pit 5 times at this point, so would they have to enter the pit again? Would they be able to make it to the finish line? All eyes were on them, but everything went according to plan. They completed 170 laps and achieved their first victory in 5 years since 2013. "Everything went according to plan. We didn't refuel during the safety car period and we entered the pit 5 times as planned," said driver Yoichi Okito.
2nd place was taken by [#1 YSS Racing × MGR. Racing Service] with a difference of 47.418 seconds. They also received the award for most laps completed in the WT class.
In the back, #12 CLUB1.2FK Kusitani Kawaguchi store and #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing were fighting for third place. With 9 minutes remaining, #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing overtook #12 CLUB1.2FK Kusitani Kawaguchi store for third place, but #12 CLUB1.2FK Kusitani Kawaguchi store took back the position. #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing was planning to make a final move, but had trouble with the brakes and went off the track at a 90 degree corner. They managed to return to the track and finished in 4th place.
The top four teams completed 170 laps. If there were no machine troubles or penalties, there was a high possibility that the positions would have changed. Among them, 【#30 ATJ-Racing】 was able to proceed smoothly and ultimately stood at the top of the 2018 "Mote tai".
After the race, the awards ceremony was held with various prizes such as the Best Design Award and the Far-Off Victory Award, in addition to the race results. The 21st "Mote Endurance" reached its finale with great excitement.
