August 25th (Sat) Race Report

【#103 NMC×ATJ -Racing】takes pole position! Aiming for a 1-2 finish!!

2018 "Mote tai" August 25th (Sat) Race Report Saturday's final race was won by [#117 PEAKY1 LEVEL5] in a huge comeback victory!!

The 21st "Mote Endurance" has finally begun. On August 25th (Sat), the official qualifying started at 8am, with 3 groups divided into A, B, and C, and the combined times of the first and second riders were contested. The Twin Ring Motegi, which had become sunny since the morning, also saw a rise in temperature. It was a time attack in the harsh lingering summer heat.

The A group of the WT class and Brave class, as expected, showed great speed in the first rider session. #35 GO&FUN TeamKYOEI C team's Masaki Sasaki set the top time of 2 minutes 15.135 seconds, followed closely by #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi store's Katsuya Nagano with 2 minutes 15.182 seconds and #11 BLUE EYES & DREAM Kashiwa's Satoshi Igarashi with 2 minutes 15.487 seconds. In the second rider session, #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing's Kazuki Tomita set a course record of 2 minutes 14.222 seconds! With a combined time of 4 minutes 32.168 seconds, they secured the pole position. "I (Nobumichi Tomita) as the first rider, have been in charge of setting up the machine based on my experience, and with the help of the talented rider Kazuki Tomita, we have determined the direction. I also wanted to set a time in the 2 minute 15 second range, but I couldn't push the time as much as I thought. I'm glad we were able to get the pole position. Actually, our main contender is #30, which has a well-balanced overall performance, so we are aiming for a 1-2 finish as a team," said Nobumichi Tomita. Naohiro Nakatsuhara, who is currently competing in the All Japan JSB1000 class, will be the third rider and has already marked a time in the 2 minute 15 second range during free practice. The team that Nobumichi Tomita considers to be the main contender, #30 ATJ-Racing, has set the top time in the WS class and will start from 14th on the grid. Will they be able to win for the first time in 5 years since 2013?

In second place is #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi store with Brave class top, in third place is #11 BLUE EYES & DREAM Kashiwa, in fourth place is #35 GO&FUN TeamKYOEI C team, in fifth place is #1 YSS Racing × MGR. Racing Service, in sixth place is #32 TEAM SANMEI, in seventh place is #33 GO&FUN TeamKYOEI B team, in eighth place is #14 DOGFIGHTRACING, in ninth place is #21 NR Project & Myumega, and in tenth place is #6 Pew Pew Electric. In terms of speed, this is the ranking, but speed alone cannot win in "Mote tai". What kind of drama awaits in the 21st "Mote tai"?

The Saturday final race was fought by the team that unfortunately could not advance to the 7-hour endurance race on Sunday. The race started at 2:15 pm and aimed for the checkered flag after 4 hours and 3 minutes. Starting from pole position, [#18 LUCKY MONDAY] took the hole shot, followed by [#117 PEAKY1 LEVEL5], [#36 Onoue Service], [#52 y-style], [#184 Takenoko Zoku], and [#69 Riding School SRTT & Yokohama SAKE SPOT]. In second place on the grid, [#65 DanRunbu RT] started slowly and went up to the second corner in 7th place. [#18 LUCKY MONDAY] aggressively increased the pace from the opening lap and entered the second lap in the lead. [#65 DanRunbu RT], who had risen to second place, chased after them. Although the gap had temporarily narrowed, [#18 LUCKY MONDAY] pulled away and established a solo lead. Behind them, [#69 Riding School SRTT & Yokohama SAKE SPOT], [#36 Onoue Service], and [#117 PEAKY1 LEVEL5] were fighting for third place in a three-way battle.

The runaway of [#18 LUCKY MONDAY] seemed to continue, but [#117 PEAKY1 LEVEL5] gradually closed the gap. As he said after the race, he consistently repeated laps while focusing on fuel-efficient driving. At the 2-hour mark, the gap between the top [#18 LUCKY MONDAY] and second place [#117 PEAKY1 LEVEL5] was about one lap, but it reversed in the last hour. The order changed during pit stops, but when [#18 LUCKY MONDAY] finished their final pit stop, the gap was about 20 seconds. [#117 PEAKY1 LEVEL5] was in the lead, with [#18 LUCKY MONDAY] chasing behind. With 5 minutes remaining, it started to rain, but [#117 PEAKY1 LEVEL5] managed to hold on and win the Saturday race. [#18 LUCKY MONDAY] finished second, 2.794 seconds behind, and [#65 弾Run部RT] took third place.

The right to participate in the 7-hour final race for the overall winning team of the Saturday final race has been transferred to the 2nd place team, #18 LUCKY MONDAY, as the winning team, #117 PEAKY1 LEVEL5, has declined.
