The official qualifying for the "Mote tai", which is counted as the 15th time this year, the "world's largest grass race", will be held on August 25th (Sat) at the road course of Twin Ring Motegi. This year, a total of 103 teams participated in the race, and a heated time attack was held to aim for the final 7-hour endurance race on the following day. The qualifying was divided into two groups, A and B, and the ranking was determined by adding the best times of the first and second riders.
The session started with the first rider of Group A, and first up was #95 Power Factory Roadway's Ushiba, who took the top spot on the leaderboard with his first lap attack. He continued to hold the top time as the session progressed. Then, on the 8th lap near the end of the session, he marked a course record of 2 minutes and 23.762 seconds in the NEO-ST Ninja class, getting off to a good start. The first rider of Group B, Suzuki from #812 Takatsuki Garage Racing, who won last year's "Open Mote Tai," showed his prowess by setting a top time of 2 minutes and 16.895 seconds.
In Group A, even as the second rider, #95 Power Factory Roadway led the qualifying race from start to finish. Rider Kotani hit a record time of 2 minutes and 22.738 seconds, surpassing even his teammates, and awaits the overall results of the qualifying race. However, in the final session of the qualifying race, even as the second rider in Group B, #812 Takatsuki Garage Racing's Fujii continued to lead the pack. On the 5th lap, he set a new course record for the WS class with a time of 2 minutes and 15.959 seconds, securing the top spot in the overall qualifying results.
In addition, in this B group session, the top 4 Ninja250R riders in the WT class have set a hot riding pace, updating the course records. #1 Bulldocka Tagos & Haruman's Kanayama sets the top time of 2 minutes and 18.948 seconds, but #92 GMD Moto Stream Mercury has secured the top grid in the WT class with a difference in overall time.
[Champion's Comment] Representative Ochi of #812 Takatsuki Garage Racing seemed satisfied with the result of the overall pole position in the qualifying. When asked about the reason, he first mentioned the "amount of practice by the rider" and proudly stated, "Our rider's amount of practice is not inferior to any other team." In response to that trust, it is said that there are riders who have reduced their time by nearly one second from the practice to today's main event. In the race, they declared, "We will not do fuel-efficient driving," showing the dignity of last year's "Open Mote Tai" champion.
In the afternoon, a 4-hour endurance race was held by 27 teams who unfortunately did not qualify. From the Le Mans-style start, the top qualifier [#67 Power Factory Roadway] took the hole shot, but the following [#88 Plan B Racing Team × ARATA] and [#101 Quattro Rosso Indies] battled closely and broke away from the opening lap.
After passing one hour from the start, both teams, [#88 Plan B Racing x ARATA] and [#101 Quattro Rosso Indies], were competing for the top spot every time they pitted for refueling. However, with 42 minutes remaining, [#101 Quattro Rosso Indies], who was leading the race, pitted for refueling, allowing [#88 Plan B Racing] to take the lead. With a long run of 33 laps until their first pit stop, all eyes were on whether [#88 Plan B Racing] could make it to the end without another pit stop. However, with 25 minutes remaining, they had to pit for refueling, giving back the lead to [#101 Quattro Rosso Indies], who went on to take the checkered flag and claim victory in the 4-hour endurance race.
