7-Hour Endurance Race Report

【#9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM】takes the victory by defeating the FIT competitors with a strategic run!

2015 "JOY TAI" July 19th (Sun) 7-Hour Endurance Race Report The 2015 Motegi Enjoy Endurance Race, which started in 2001 and is now in its 15th year, has become a popular event with 90 teams filling up the entry slots in no time. This is all thanks to the support of the participants and those involved over the past 15 years.

The final day was greeted with a clear blue sky. In the morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency announced that "the Kanto-Koshin region is expected to have entered the rainy season." It seemed as if the scorching heat had arrived just in time for the final race of JOY TAI. Teams completed their refueling and moved their machines to the grid, making final adjustments and taking commemorative photos while eagerly awaiting the start.

And divided into two groups, the safety car leads the way and 90 teams enter the formation lap. When the safety car enters the pit with a clean formation, the signal turns green and the race starts when it passes the control line. The start time was exactly 10:00:00. First, the pole position start #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM clears the first and second corners, and #18 Asano Automobile Prelude comes out from the inside of #51 Braille Battery Mars Civic. The opening lap is won by #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM, followed by #51 Braille Battery Mars Civic, #147 DRS 147 Stile, and a slight gap to #18 Asano Automobile Prelude, #14 Mason BRIDE elf EK9, #27 Chichirodo Star, and #864 Pulse REDU Ryusei A1DC5.

Immediately after the start, #51 Braille Battery Mars Civic was close to #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM, but #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM marked the fastest lap of 2 minutes 18 seconds 055 on the 5th lap and continued to lead the race. #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM is running at a high pace of around 2 minutes 20 seconds while considering fuel efficiency. When entering the pit for refueling, #62 G/MOTION WM FIT, which has excellent fuel efficiency, takes the lead, but #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM, which started running at a high pace again, returns to the top position.

At the 2-hour mark, the 【#9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM】 that was leading the race made its second pit stop. 【#27 Chichirodo Star】, 【#51 Braille Battery Mars Civic】, and 【#44 Red Shark SSS】 were following closely behind on the same lap, and at this point, 【#27 Chichirodo Star】 took the lead. After that, 【#27 Chichirodo Star】 also made its second pit stop, and the lead changed rapidly between 【#51 Braille Battery Mars Civic】 and 【#27 Chichirodo Star】.

And at the 3 hour and 5 minute mark, the car stopped on the course just before the S-curve and the safety car was deployed. At this point, the #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM made a perfect pit stop for refueling. After completing 81 laps at the 3 hour and 45 minute mark, they made their fourth pit stop at the 100 lap mark. The #999 versus.FUCHS.wm.GK took the lead, but at the 5 hour mark, the #62 G/MOTION WM FIT and other FIT teams were catching up. However, the #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM, with its superior speed, overtook the #999 versus.FUCHS.wm.GK on the 133rd lap with less than an hour remaining. At this point, the FIT teams were required to make at least one more pit stop, as per the rule that states "each class must have a minimum of 5 driver changes." Although the #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM's victory was almost certain at this point, anything can happen in a race. The team, who had struggled with fuel consumption, slowed down to match the pace of the FIT teams and ensured their victory.

After that, the battle for second place became intense, with the class victory of Fit 1.5CC at stake. It was a situation where #999 versus FUCHS.wm.GK was leading and #62 G/MOTION WM FIT was chasing. At first, with about 28 minutes remaining, #62 G/MOTION WM FIT made their final driver change and returned to the track, with a gap of about 47 seconds between the two teams. #999 versus FUCHS.wm.GK also made their final driver change with 15 minutes remaining, but they were struggling with fuel consumption and were barely hanging on... And then, with only 1 minute remaining, #999 versus FUCHS.wm.GK unfortunately slowed down. They stopped their car on the inside of turn 2.

The #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM ran 154 laps and won the race. "The key to victory was being able to run according to our strategy without any mistakes. The timing of the safety car was also good. However, we had some difficulties with fuel consumption. Being able to slow down the pace at the end was also crucial. Everyone did a perfect job," said Fukuda.

"Fukuda and Nakajima won the championship two years ago. I really wanted to win, so I was able to join the team. Last year, we had trouble in the qualifying round and couldn't race, so we started from the back, but this year I am really happy to be able to win," said Goto, with a comment of joy.

The first time JOY TAI has achieved victory from pole position. It was a well-deserved victory, with everything going smoothly, including fuel-efficient driving and pit stop timing.

Second place overall was taken by [#62 G/MOTION WM FIT] with the same number of laps as the leader, winning the Fit 1.5CC class. In third place overall is [#1 DIJON Wako's ED Nils FIT3].

The #810 Team Nadeshiko ☆ Kanto Institute of Technology Corolla, which caused a stir by entering with a machine that uses biodiesel fuel processed from waste cooking oil used at the Calbee factory, finished in 74th place. They also received the special award for the 15th tournament, the 15 Checker Award (awarded to the vehicle that passed the control line in 15th place after the checkered flag was presented in the final).
