The 15th edition of the Joy Tai in 2015. On July 18th (Sat), a special sports driving session was held in the morning, followed by a pre-qualifying briefing in the afternoon and the official qualifying session starting at 1:10 pm for A drivers in Group A (Class-2, 3, 4, FIT1.5). Although there was occasional rain, it was not enough to wet the track, and the time attack was mostly done in dry conditions. However, for the drivers on the track, the rain was not a positive factor visually.
In such conditions, in the session of A driver group A, #188 KRac Man'ya Shouten WM Levin's player Koji Uchimura marked 2 minutes 20 seconds 463 for the top time. Ikuo Ota, who drives #25 BRIDE ADVAN FIT, marked 2 minutes 23 seconds 115 to update the course record for FIT 1.5, and was not only the top in the class but also the 6th in the A driver group A.
In the A Driver B Group (Class-5, 6, 7, 8, 9), the machines with larger engine displacement were naturally faster, with many teams achieving lap times under 2 minutes and 20 seconds. Among them, the top time was set by #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM's Higashi Goto, who recorded a time of 2 minutes and 12.081 seconds, setting a new Class-8 course record with a large lead of 4.641 seconds. In second place was #18 Asano Automobile Prelude's Takeo Asano with a time of 2 minutes and 16.722 seconds, followed by #51 Braille Battery Mars Civic's Masamichi Kato with a time of 2 minutes and 17.128 seconds.
The rain comes and goes, but the session continues. In Group B Driver A, #188 KRac Manya Shouten WM Levin's Yoshihiko Kakuta is the top in 2 minutes 20.613 seconds, and in Class-4, he is undoubtedly the top. In second place is #42 Shiooka SP Acre AS Yanagimoto Levin's Eiichi Sato, and in third place is #28 Sunspot Dock Marine MR2's Shinya Nakamura, making Class-4 the top three.
And on this day, in the final qualifying session for the B driver group, #9 Fukuda Solar NS Potenza WM's Yasunori Nakajima marked a time of 2 minutes 11.715 seconds, surpassing the course record previously set by A driver Goto. With the combined time of A and B drivers determining the grid for the Joy Tai, Nakajima secured an unquestionable pole position.
"This year, everything has been going smoothly. Last year, we had trouble with the fuel system during qualifying and had to start from the back, so this year is the complete opposite. We also have good data on fuel efficiency, so if we can run as planned, I think we can achieve good results," commented Nakajima. First and foremost, he will want to pull away from the second place driver from the start.
In second place in the qualifying is Class-9's [#18 Asano Automobile Prelude], followed by Class-6's [#51 Braille Battery Mars Civic], but Joy Tai is not just about speed. In the FIT1.5, the highest position was 35th for [#25 Bride Advan FIT], but they are likely to move up in the race with their fuel efficiency as their weapon. Which class and team will win the 15th Joy Tai competition!?
On this day, we held a briefing to prepare for the final race, and the competition director, Katsumi Takaya, announced that there were no penalties in the official qualifying round. This is evidence that the etiquette has improved, and let's make the Sunday final race a 7-hour JOY TAI that all teams can enjoy!
