We asked Ryo Narita, the section coordinator for this tournament, to explain all 12 sections, each with its own unique features!

Section Guide

What are the overall characteristics of the sections?

<Sections that make the most of the nature-rich environment of Mobility Resort Motegi>

The sections of the Trial World Championship TrialGP of Japan are designed as a stage to showcase the amazing skills of the world’s top riders.
Among these, the greatest feature is how they utilize nature.
For example, the appearance of the sections changes drastically between sunny and rainy conditions. When it rains, the conditions become extremely challenging, almost like riding on ice, but it is exciting to watch the riders with outstanding skills overcome these difficulties.

What to Look Forward to in 2025?

<Rule Changes Make the Race Even More Dramatic!>

In the 2025 Trial World Championship, the time limit per section has been significantly shortened from 1 minute 30 seconds to 1 minute.
As a result, Riders will need to clear sections more quickly, making the race even more demanding than before. Also, watch for the tension as they battle against the pressure of completing within the time limit.
I expect to see greater variations than usual in Riders’ techniques, personalities, and approaches.

Section Features

1 & 2
Basic techniques are put to the test!
These sections can be cleared using basic techniques. Therefore, experienced Riders may have an advantage. The more solidly a Rider has mastered fundamental skills, the better they can demonstrate their abilities.

A challenging section featuring acrobatic techniques
Section 3, located in the same area as Sections 1 and 2, is one of the toughest sections in the event where many Riders struggled during the 2024 TrialGP of Japan.
It features a varied and three-dimensional design, allowing spectators to witness spectacular actions. For Riders who can utilize the latest techniques, it is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their full potential.
This year, the entrance and exit of the section were reversed, slightly lowering the difficulty, but it remains a challenging section.

4
Difficulty can vary greatly depending on the weather.
The biggest feature of Section 4 is its technical and three-dimensional structure. The highlight here is the latest technique of "riding on the rear wheel only." Riders overcome three-dimensional obstacles such as rocky terrain by leaning the front of the bike significantly while riding solely on the rear wheel. On sunny days, you can expect to see top Riders aggressively attacking the course.
On the other hand, this section becomes significantly more difficult when it rains. The fact that the Riders’ performance changes completely depending on whether it’s sunny or rainy is one of the reasons Section 4 is so exciting.

Scenic beauty originating from the birthplace of Trial, England
Section 5 features a stream flowing from Hello Woods. The presence of this stream is reminiscent of the traditional style of trials, originating from the UK. Additionally, the design takes advantage of the beautiful natural scenery, creating a landscape where trial bikes and nature coexist, which I believe is very appealing to spectators.

The essence of Trial: "Muddy Section"
Section 6 is what is commonly called the "Muddy Section," and depending on the weather, it can become completely covered in mud. When it rains, puddles tend to form easily, and water also seeps out from the rocks, making the conditions very slippery when unfavorable.
There may even be times when mud splashes onto spectators. That is also one of the charms of Trial, so we hope you will enjoy it including that aspect.

7
New element added to unstable rock course
Section 7 is a new section introduced this year.
The material used is granite called "Inada Stone," produced in Ibaraki Prefecture, and a major feature of this section is that it is embedded within the slope.
Additionally, the area where Section 7 is located tends to be humid and is heavily influenced by natural elements such as water and mud, making it a section where unexpected mistakes are likely to occur.
In that sense, I believe it is a very compelling section to watch.

8 & 10
Thrilling excitement on the unstable rock course
Sections 8 and 10 are based on traditional rock courses. The rock formations in these sections are prone to crumbling, requiring considerable skill from the Riders. On the other hand, spectators can enjoy a wide view of the sections, watching the Riders boldly take on the rugged rocks.

"Sustainable Section" Created Through Collaborative Effort
This year’s "Sustainable Section" is Section 9, newly created within the rock area.
This section is characterized by being made through the "collaborative effort" of many people, including the use of thinned wood harvested to maintain the health of the Hello Woods forest, as well as the cooperation of Mobility Resort Motegi staff in painting and processing concrete pipes.
Additionally, the section features the Hello Woods character "Kibito (Little Tree Person)" and is decorated with beautiful flowers, making it visually enjoyable. Another feature is that spectators can watch from close proximity to the section.

11
Easy to understand and catchy charm of Trial
Section 11 is designed with a concept that is easy to relate to even for those who are not familiar with Trial. It’s a catchy and impactful section, just like a trendy pop song.
Watching the Riders’ acrobatic and eye-catching performances will surely convey the charm of Trial in a straightforward way.
12
Hello Woods' famous section within the grounds
Section 12 is a popular section located within Hello Woods at Mobility Resort Motegi. The same location is used every year, making it a “famous section.”
This section features a steep slope with exposed bedrock that riders race up, showcasing flashy techniques typical of Trial. It is also an easy section to watch from, so it is recommended for those seeing Trial for the first time.
Tour the diverse sections and witness the world-class superhuman skills demonstrated by the Riders!
