On Saturday, July 24, the 10th Endurance Carnival was held in 2010 with the 2010 Motegi KART Endurance Festival “K-TAI” 5-hour endurance event. Marking the 10-year milestone, the event was changed from the Mission Kart Class held until 2009 to vehicles based on 4-stroke engines on both days. Furthermore, due to modification restrictions, the event allowed mixed racing of two classes: the “Challenge Class,” which offers the enjoyment of building vehicles with a relatively wide range of modifications, and the “Enjoy Class,” which limits additional parts changes to a minimum so that even first-timers can easily enjoy the event.
On the first day, Saturday the 24th, a total of 27 teams entered the 5-hour endurance event. On this midsummer day, when the temperature was already approaching 30 degrees early in the morning, karters gathered at Twin Ring Motegi to enjoy the event. The traditional opening ceremony parade by the participants, a staple of "K-TAI," took place. Afterwards, the athlete's oath was given by [#2 Rikigaku System], and participants faced about 180 officials who support "K-TAI" behind the scenes. Every year, this kind of mutual celebration between participants and officials to mark the "K-TAI" event is something not seen at other events. Thus, the 10th edition of "K-TAI" was officially underway.
The 5-hour endurance final event started at 10:30. The race began with a rolling start by 26 cars lined up on the grid and a pit start for the electric kart BIREL-EV, which was specially invited by the organizers. Immediately after the start, #31 Shonan Shinjuku feat.fuu? passed through the first corner in the lead. Following that, each team raced on the Twin Ring Motegi's international racing course. After one lap, #2 Rikigaku System took the lead and pulled ahead of #3 K.R.R GX DREAM and the rest of the pack. However, after the first hour, #3 K.R.R GX DREAM completed 21 laps and took the lead. Following behind were #196 Team IMA・OMSC, #31 Shonan Shinjuku feat.fuu?, and #9 RK Robot Racing, all on the same lap.
The feature of this "K-TAI" is that during the final event, various events are prepared for event participants. For example, during the event, Twin Ring Motegi Angels visit the participants' pits and conduct real-time interviews with them in the pit report. On the other hand, participants can visit the announcer's room and use the PR time to promote their own team through the in-venue broadcast. Furthermore, participants can send real-time messages through email recruitment during the event, which will be introduced by the announcer through the in-venue broadcast. This is not just about racing on the course, but also about creating an atmosphere where everyone in the venue can enjoy themselves.
The final event progressed smoothly with the help of good weather. As time passed, the top three teams, #9 RK Robot Racing, #4 ddd, and #3 K.R.R GX DREAM, were vying for the most laps award. In the last hour, the competition intensified between #3 K.R.R GX DREAM and #4 ddd as they raced towards the final goal.
On lap 92, the two cars that had been battling on the outside of the final corner, #4 ddd emerged as the leader. However, on lap 94, they were overtaken again on the second S-curve and fell back to second place. But on lap 97, #4 ddd once again took the lead at 130R. In the end, they were able to pull away from #3 K.R.R GX DREAM, who said "the tires were too worn out and I couldn't keep up", and took the checkered flag. This marked the 10th "K-TAI" victory, with a lucky number of 100 laps completed, earning these two teams the most laps award in the Challenge Class. In the Enjoy Class, #15 Tigers and #13 TOUSOU R・S took home the most laps award with 96 laps completed.
The excellent lap award for the Challenge class goes to [#9 RK Robot Racing], [#2 Power Technique System], [#31 Shin-Shonan Shinjuku feat.fuu?], and the excellent lap award for the Enjoy class goes to [#7 ABOUT], [#10 MIC KARTING], [#16 Takanezawa Auto Club ★ OB Team].
Also, the team that attracted the most attention in this event and won the MVP award was #773 Women's Kart Club SEGUNDA. Composed of female athletes, this was their third year participating as the Women's Kart Club. The reason for receiving the award was their leadership by female drivers, participation in all three public practice sessions, and their sincere approach to "K-TAI" without receiving any penalties, which led to this result.
The 2011 "K-TAI" will be held for the 11th time. As a representative event of karts equipped with 4-stroke general-purpose engines, we will make it an even more exciting event than ever before, so please join us enthusiastically!
