Instructor Profile

Matsuzaki Yutaka Tōru Matsuzaki Resides in Motegi Town, Chairman of the Crafts Department of the National Painting Association, Wood Lacquer Crafts Artist

"My job is to carve wood and dress it in lacquered kimono."
"I believe that my thoughts come first, and expressing them is my technique."

Therefore, the technology should be kept as simple as possible, while valuing the beauty of the design. The lacquer is applied layer by layer to the form, and it is stopped at a point where it looks beautiful to the eye. By seeking the beauty of the form, dressing it in a strong kimono, and using it, it becomes even more beautiful and glossy.
I hope to create works that combine strength and dignity.
